All Things History: The Pacific Theater of Naval Warfare in the Mexican-American War

After claiming California, the United States Naval forces moved south to the Baja Peninsula. On 2 September, Lieutenant Rowan landed a party from the Cyane against enemy cannon at San Blas, one of Mexico’s main supply bases on the Pacific coast.

Culture and Values in Latin America and the Caribbean: Assignment 4b- Mision San Francisco de Asis altar

Mission San Francisco de Asis, or Mission Dolores, in San Francisco.

The reredos was made in San Blas, Mexico and sent to the mission in 1796 by ship. It arrived in pieces and was extremely impressive when assembled. There are also two side altars, like little reredos, which were sent from Mexico in 1810. I would like to know why they were sent from Mexico instead of being made in California. Was the skill so much better in Mexico that it was worth it?

As the liquor became better known in the 18th century, so demand increased. Its growth was greatly helped by the creation in 1758 of the commercial route known as the Camino Real connecting Tequila to the port of San Blas on the Pacific Ocean, to Guadalajara and to Mexico City.
